The Art Crit

The Art Crit

Tuesday, January 17th*
6-8pm
Cobb 409
Free Food Provided

Hello Artists!

Did you come to the art crit Outside the Lines held last quarter? Did you enjoy getting constructive feedback about your artwork from a professional artist? Did you enjoy meeting your art peers and looking at their artwork? Did you enjoy the free food?

Then come back again to our first art crit for the 2012 year!!! Even if you’ve never come to any of our crits before, even if you don’t wish to bring any of your own artwork, we welcome all and any students who may just want to meet their artist peers, look at their artwork, enjoy free food and discuss art. This time, we will be featuring African Festival of the Arts winner and fellow South Side artist Dayo Laoye, who will be giving his opinions about your artworks’ strengths and weaknesses and give you advice about where you can improve. Feel free to bring artwork of any medium or type, be they the figure drawings you’ve been doing at our sessions or an abstract painting you’ve been doing in your spare time. This is a great (and rare!) opportunity to present your artwork and see what other great art fellow artists on campus have been doing! So take a break from all your studying and enjoy some free food at Outside the Line’s Art Crit!

RSVP at otl.uchicago@gmail.com! And if you do plan on coming with artwork, let us know the size and dimensions so that we can accommodate your needs!

We hope to see you there!

*Our regular weekly figure drawing session will be cancelled for that week.

Hello Artists!

Have you been coming to Outside the Line’s weekly figure drawing sessions and have been wanting to meet your fellow artists? Have you ever wanted to have your art be critiqued by a professional artist/art historian/art teacher? Have you ever wanted to just meet the other artists on campus? Then bring your artwork and come on over to Outside the Line’s Artists Party!

We will be holding a critique led by art lecturer and artist Laura Mueller from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), who will be giving her opinions about your arts’ strengths and weaknesses and give you advice about where you can improve. Feel free to bring artwork of any medium or type, be they the figure drawings you’ve been doing at our sessions or an abstract painting you’ve been doing in your spare time. If you’re too shy to bring your own artwork but still want to meet your fellow artists, then feel free to just drop by, listen in on the critique and eat some food at the social right after. This is a great (and rare!) opportunity to present your artwork and see what other great art fellow artists on campus have been doing! So take a break from all your studying and enjoy some free food at Outside the Line’s Artists Party!

RSVP at otl.uchicago@gmail.com! And if you do plan on coming with artwork, let us know the size and dimensions so that we can accommodate your needs!

We hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who made our critique and social a success!  Artists brought work in many different mediums–including sketches from our figure drawing sessions, paintings, and collages–and enjoyed great snacks and company.

A special thanks to Katherine Desjardins for her great advice and input on all the artwork, and Hallowed Grounds for hosting.

We will post information about future special events, so don’t forget to check back!
